Real Madrid Transfers: The only way Sergio Reguilon would be sold
Real Madrid don’t seem to have any intention of selling Sergio Reguilon in the 2020 summer transfer window.
Los Blancos will have some tough decisions to make this summer, since they want to raise nearly 200 million euros in funds during the economic crisis. Real Madrid will obviously shop veteran players who have no place in the team, such as Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez, but they may also be open to selling young loanees like Oscar Rodriguez.
There are so many talented young players at Real Madrid that not all of them can conceivably play. It’s why Real were essentially forced to sell Achraf Hakimi to Inter Milan for 40 million euros, though there is a way they can get him back one day.
Hakimi’s sale has led to worries that Real may have to sell Sergio Reguilon, too. Quietly, the young left back has been one of Europe’s best on loan at Sevilla, but he would find playing time impossible in 2020-2021. Ferland Mendy has been crucial to Real’s success in his first season, and Marcelo is still around as an effective backup.
But according to a report from Defensa Central, two things would have to happen for Real Madrid to sell Sergio Reguilon. Firstly, Reguilon would have to accept a transfer. That is obvious. But secondly, Real would reportedly need an offer of around 30 million euros to be willing to part ways with Reguilon.
It’s not impossible to envision that offer coming, but it’s unlikely. At any other time, that would be an affordable sale, but in the current economic situation when Hakimi is going for around half his market value, 30 million euros for Reguilon is a lot.
Basically, it seems like Real Madrid are telling teams that Reguilon is not for sale, unless they can send an offer to Real that Los Blancos cannot refuse due to the financial benefit. And again, it would have to also be an offer that entices Reguilon, since the decision to leave and receive playing time is in his court, so to speak. Real do not hold young players against their will.
