Whereas the other players on this list didn’t have ideal 2019-2020 seasons at Real Madrid or didn’t play on the first team at all, Eder Militao actually had a strong rookie season in La Liga for the Whites.

The former FC Porto star looks like a man worth 50 million euros, even though, at one point, he was also shoved into transfer rumors like fellow 22-year-old 2019 summer signing Luka Jovic.

Militao has been able to get a decent amount of playing time behind the best center back duo in world football, as Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane have missed a few games here and there. The Brazilian defender had a huge performance in a 1-0 win at San Mames in Varane’s place, but his best games were usually alongside Varane.

He’s been a part of a few clean sheets for Real Madrid this season, and the 2020-2021 campaign will be about continued growth from Militao. Real are always looking to sign the best young players in the world, so Militao needs to not only maintain his level of performance but show improvement. Real have been linked to players like Dayot Upamecano, and there are a lot of great young center backs out there who could be Ramos replacements.

Militao, though, has the leg up on everyone else and is as good as many of those players. His tape from 2019-2020 in La Liga backs it up. Next season will be Militao’s time to firmly establish himself as a youngster with superstar ability at center back.
