Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic is being aggressively recruited by AS Monaco.

While it hasn’t been an ideal start to life at the Santiago Bernabeu for Luka Jovic, it’s honestly hard to see Real Madrid giving up on him after one season in which he had to play a reserved role behind MVP-level No. 9 Karim Benzema.

Let’s be honest. Benzema is one of the best center forwards of his generation, and some would argue that he is the best. So it’s no shame for Jovic to have been second fiddle to Benzema, and it’s completely understandable that he barely played in his first season with Real, all things considered.

Still, that hasn’t stopped rumors from swirling about Jovic’s status, and one particularly interesting rumor is coming out of France.

More from The Real Champs

According to a report from France Football, new AS Monaco manager Niko Kovac has reportedly convinced the striker to join him. Monaco recently hired Kovac, who is looking to reestablish himself as one of Europe’s best young managers after being fired by Bayern Munich.

Kovac won a double in his first season at Bayern and led Eintracht Frankfurt’s resurgence before that. And one of his key players was Jovic up top. So the history between the two of them and the established rapport means that while this transfer rumor has come from seemingly nowhere, it’s not entirely unbelievable either.

But there are two key issues that prevent me from thinking about this deal actually happening. Firstly, the cost. Monaco have money, but would they really be willing to spend upwards of 50 million euros on Jovic?

Despite the economic crisis and Real’s desire to raise funds for Kylian Mbappe in 2021, Los Blancos won’t take too much less than the 60 million euros they paid for Jovic. They are willing to listen to offers but only enticing ones. There is no pressure for them to sell an investment at striker.

Secondly, Zinedine Zidane. Niko Kovac is a good coach who knows Jovic well, but Zidane has spoken highly of the new No. 9 in Madrid and was the one who initially pushed for him to arrive at the Bernabeu. So if Zidane wants Jovic, then it may be harder for Kovac to convince him to make the move. Because Zidane can always have his own pull.

Next. Marco Asensio can be instrumental for Real Madrid at City. dark

This is a transfer situation to watch closely. Now that Napoli has signed Victor Osimhen, it may be a battle between Milan and Monaco among teams that could conceivably offer a reasonable transfer proposal to Real Madrid for Luka Jovic.
