Marc Roca’s Espanyol has been relegated from La Liga, so the top-class Spanish defensive midfielder could be looking for a new team in the 2020-2021 season.

The player could be had at a steep discount, with Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo reporting that Espanyol are willing to accept an offer half his release clause of around 18 million euros. That’s similar to the offer Bayern Munich once (laughably) gave in the past and were roundly dismissed. Now, Roca could go for that much during the economic crisis, which has hit Espanyol especially hard (and even moreso after relegation).

Roca didn’t have his best season for Espanyol in 2019-2020, but it’s hard to fault him considering the circumstances. He was trying to keep this team afloat, and they deserved to be the worst in the league due to their toothless attack. Roca was working overtime to keep things together.

Real Madrid need to make sure Casemiro isn’t overworked himself. The best defensive midfielder in the world, Casemiro has no backup and is thus even more crucial to the team. Having some rest would benefit him greatly in the biggest matches, especially in the Champions League.

At less than 20 million euros, an accomplished 23-year-old defensive midfielder is a steal. And Roca is a wonderful passer whose class would be easier to see on a team like Real.
