3. Dani Carvajal, RB Real Madrid

Perhaps Dani Carvajal should rate higher on this list, but it is difficult to rate left backs. And it was hard to say that his 2019-2020 season in La Liga was truly better than either of his “teammates” who also cracked this top five.

Still, Carvajal was the best right back in La Liga by some distance. He has no peer at the position defensively, and there isn’t a fullback in La Liga who is more of a threat to set up a goal for a teammate than the experienced Spanish international.

Carvajal finished the 2019-2020 campaign with one goal and five assists, and the penalty he drew against Getafe was crucial in Los Blancos winning 1-0 en route to the title.

The 28-year-old completed over 86 percent of his passes with 1.3 key passes per game, always offering an outlet and no shortage of attacking work rate down the right-hand side, no matter the formation. Carvajal was even better defensively, with 2.1 tackles per game and 1.2 interceptions per game, overcoming some lapses early in the season.

When La Liga returned, Carvajal was on another level, fighting his heart out for every single loose ball and always pushing up the pitch to make something happen, as he did against Getafe. Carvajal continues to set the standard at right back.
