Although not much is going to change in terms of the squad, Real Madrid will want a few things to work differently.

Real Madrid return to training next week with a renewed ambition and a new set of challenges for the 2020-21 season. The 2019-20 season was not bad, winning the Supercopa de España and La Liga.

In an interview with AFP, Zidane expressed his ecstasy about winning the league. “In the end, having been able to finish LaLiga, having played it and finally won it, has been a great satisfaction and a great joy. “I could say that the day we won it was almost one of the happiest days of my life.”

However, the players and Zidane himself would have wanted things to play out differently in other competitions. Toni Kroos discussed the Champions League on the latest episode of his podcast ‘Einfach mal Luppen’ with his brother Felix Kroos. Toni was asked if he is over the Champions League defeat to Manchester City, to which he replied, “Yes absolutely. But that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t continue to annoy me. Real Madrid belong further than in the round of 16. That is also how I see myself,”

These are two moods within the team, creating a stark juxtaposition. They have a lot of positives to take from the most extended season in football history (time-wise) as there was not much to be cheerful about after the pre-season (the wounds of the 7-3 clobbering at the hands of Atlético Madrid have healed but they remain somewhere at the back of our minds).

Zinedine Zidane will be keen to start from where Real left off in the league, hoping they can take advantage of the turmoil Barcelona find themselves in at the moment. Domestically, Los Blancos will be the bookmakers’ favourites to win the league for the second successive season.

Here are four things to look forward to for the upcoming season.
