Once a hero, always a hero for Spurs. But not for Real Madrid!

Real Madrid paid a world-record fee for Gareth Bale in 2013 to acquire the Welsh international. He took no time to impress the Bernabeu crowd by scoring in both the Champions League and Copa del Rey finals in the debut season. Fans started calling him the prince of Bernabeu but fairy tales don’t last long.

Fast forward to the 2019/2020 season. Gareth Bale has only 20 appearances.

Lack of playing time bears the truth that he is not in the plans of Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane. Zidane had even told media before the City game that Bale had asked not to travel if he would not be a part of the squad for that game.

As has been the case for a couple of years now, the club is more than willing to field offers for the player. Meanwhile, Bale’s agent has clearly stated from time to time that Welshman is not going anywhere until his contract expires.

Bale has won four Champions League, four FIFA Club World Cup, three UEFA Super Cup, two La Liga, one Copa del Rey, and one Spanish Super Cup title while with Real Madrid. These are no ordinary stats, even considering his Real Madrid Galactico status. Remember when he outran Marc Bartra to score a stunning goal in Copa final? Or that insane overhead kick against Liverpool to win the UCL title for the 13th time? Yeah, he is that good.

If recent reports regarding Tottenham Hotspur offering Bale a way out of Real Madrid are to be believed, then Bale needs to do whatever it takes to complete this move. It would be a dream return for him as well as for Spurs fans who always backed him in his early years there.

Bale’s concerns about fans booing him at the Santiago Bernabeu are no secrets. Tottenham fans will welcome Gareth with open arms. After all, he was one of their best players.

His relationship with Real Madrid fans has completely fallen apart in the last couple of years and there’s no sign guaranteeing that it will improve in the future.

Gareth Bale has two years remaining on his contract and the Welshman is expected to cost the La Liga champions £60m. Despite money never being a problem, Bale doesn’t find himself in perfect jig-fit for Los Blancos.

Jose Mourinho took charge of Tottenham last season. One can say both hold a good professional relationship and can work seamlessly. We have often seen his team playing counter-attacking football. Bale with his lightning speed was once a key piece in this strategy alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. These tactics helped Real Madrid to hold on for some time in a Xavi-Iniesta era when FC Barcelona was grabbing nearly all of those Clásicos.

Bale returning to England can revive that same vigor and competitive spirit he had when he moved to Spain in 2013. This looks like the best possible solution for him at this moment to spend his last couple of years at top-level football.

The deal seems perfect for both club and player. He can solve Tottenham’s right-wing problems. There’s no doubt about his goal scoring qualities when he is fully fit, either. He has proved himself on the biggest stages of football against the best teams in the world.

His arrival will make Tottenham a serious contender in the Premier League. The front three of Bale, Harry Kane, and Son will be one hell of a formidable combination and can prove a headache for any team in the world.

Gareth is 31 now, meaning there are probably still two or three years left in him to play at the top level and he must take this opportunity to showcase his talent once again. He has an opportunity to live up to his name ‘Welsh Wizard’. He should certainly not miss this.

There is a quote by Harvey Dent from the Batman movie, “you either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.”

At this moment, Gareth is considered the villain.
