Real Madrid’s U-19 team has won their first UEFA Youth League title!
Real Madrid has won the UEFA Youth League for the first time since its inaugural year in 2013 by defeating two times runner-up SL Benfica 3-2.
Pablo Rodriguez and Miguel Gutierrez were the goal scorers in the finals for Real Madrid with Henrique Jocu scoring an own goal to make it three for the Juvenil A side. Previously, Real Madrid’s U-19 team was defeated thrice in the semifinal, twice by Benfica.
In this exciting final, we not only witnessed a thrilling second half, but also witnessed Madrid Luis Lopez come up clutch in the 68th minute stopping a penalty shot from Benfica captain Thiago Dantas which kept the scoreline at 3-2 to Real Madrid.
Earlier today, club president Florentino Pérez visited the team and stayed to watch them win their maiden title.
Real Madrid had topped the group stage after garnering 13 points and winning five of their six games while scoring 16 goals in total.
They went on to win against Juventus in the round of 16, followed by a 3-0 win over Inter Milan to reach their fourth semifinals. The win against Salzburg in the semifinal helped them reach their first finals in the 7th edition of UEFA Youth League
Center-forward Juanmi Latasa and left- back Miguel Gutierrez were the highest scorers for the men in whites scoring four in their nine and 10 appearances this season, respectively. They are followed by the center-forward Pablo Rodriguez who scored three. The wall, Pablo Roman, played more than 900 minutes at center back which is the most by any player in the squad.
Earlier this year, the senior team went on to win the club’s 34th league title and now the young lads winning the UEFA Youth League title has made every Madrid fans very happy as they conclude 2019-20 campaign.
Next season, the addition of Real Madrid Feminino makes it more exciting as they will be playing for the first time representing Real Madrid. They have received the love and wishes from fans all across the globe.
