Real Madrid will officially have a women’s team for the first time in 2020-2021, and here are five big questions for the club.

At long last, Real Madrid Femenino has arrived. Last year, Real absorbed local club CD Tacon with the plan to transition them under the official club name for the 2020-2021 season.

Tacon’s first season in Spain’s top flight went decently well. The club achieved its primary goal of remaining in the Primera Division. While it wasn’t smooth sailing for them throughout the year, they slowly became a quality club by the end of the season, buoyed by veteran signings in defense and midfield and the three Galacticas of Sofia Jakobsson, Chioma Ubogagu, and Kosovare Asllani in the attack.

Real Madrid Femenino will have high expectations next season, so here are five big questions for Las Blancas.

1. Who will lead the team in goals?

Last season, CD Tacon had four players with five goals. Jessica Martinez, Chioma Ubogagu, and Kosovare Asllani all scored five times, but Sofia Jakobsson led the way with seven goals, often standing out as the team’s difference-maker in the final third.

But Jakobsson also played the most minutes of those four players, logging nearly 2,000 minutes to lead the way.

Jakobsson is an extraordinary athlete with a real eye for goal, but Asllani has copious technical quality and Ubogagu was a true star player for the Orlando Pride in the ultra-competitive NWSL before joining Tacon/Madrid.

While Jakobsson seems like a good bet to lead the team in goals again, Ubogagu and Asllani bring plenty of attacking firepower to the table. And Martinez stood out at striker in her first season since joining from Santos. Jakobsson and Asllani had the most efficient scoring numbers when looking at goals and minutes played, so look for them to lead the way in 2020-2021.
