2. How will the new fullbacks affect the team?

Real Madrid needed to invest in more attacking wide players this summer to help support the goal-scorers up front. Chioma Ubogagu and Sofia Jakobsson should be sure-fire starters on the left and right, respectively, but they can become even more effective scoring options with the right support behind them.

Las Blancas made a lot of signings this summer, but the biggest additions may have been at fullback. Marta Corredera is a legend of Spanish football and can add defensive steel and calm passing at either right back or left back; she is equally adept at playing either position, depending on where Real’s need is.

But Corredera, as impressive as she is, might not be the biggest game-changer on the flanks. Las Blancas also added Mexican right back Kenti Robles, who can be a star player for the club with her pace and attacking qualities.

On the left side, Las Blancas have another impressive attacking fullback in Olga Carmona. She could challenge to start as a winger, but she could also get minutes at left back, potentially as a backup to Corredera. Like Robles, Carmona is quick and adept at creating chances for others.

Real Madrid’s strength will be as an attacking team, and they can play exciting football on the level of anyone else in Spain with the right setup on the flanks. They can’t sacrifice too much defensively, but Robles and Corredera could be the perfect mix of both as a legitimately world-class fullback duo.
