Real Madrid attacking midfielder Isco suffered an ankle injury and may not play in the 2020-2021 La Liga season opener.
On Sunday, Sept. 20, Real Madrid will travel to the Anoeta Stadium to face one of the most exciting teams in La Liga and kick off the 2020-2021 season. Real Sociedad no longer have Martin Odegaard, whom Zinedine Zidane called back to Los Blancos this summer, but they did add the experienced David Silva and remain one of the league’s best teams.
The reporter states that Isco’s status for the opener is in doubt, as Isco will need 7-10 days to rest from this injury. So it would be cutting it close for the game against La Real.
Zinedine Zidane has a lot of options at his disposal, as Real Madrid are one of the deepest sides in all of Europe. So he normally is exceedingly cautious with injuries. Any time Real haven’t been overly cautious, it has come back to bite them, as Eden Hazard’s recurring ankle issues can attest. Ankle injuries are always tricky business, especially in football.
Isco could play for Real Madrid against Real Betis
Hopefully, Isco’s ankle injury and isn’t serious and he’ll be rested against Sociedad and ready to play one week later against a hungry Real Betis side.
If Isco is unable to play, we could see an increased chance of Odegaard making his season debut for Los Blancos against the team he nearly helped lead to a Champions League spot. Isco usually plays as a center attacking midfielder in a diamond or as a creative right forward in the diamond or 4-3-3 formations.
Odegaard, Vinicius Junior, and Marco Asensio all have increased chances of starting if Isco is injured, but it’s anyone’s guess as to who is favored by Zidane to start the fresh La Liga season.
