Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos is still one of the best center backs in European football, but the club must start thinking about his long-term replacement.

Last season, Real Madrid would not have been La Liga champions without center back Sergio Ramos. The team captain scored 11 goals in the league to finish second on the team behind Karim Benzema. He scored from penalties, headers, and free kicks, providing composure from the spot that was necessary for the final games of the season.

Ramos remains one of the most effective defenders in Europe, even if he does show signs of slipping in some games. For the most part, Ramos is at the top of his game, intercepting passes and keeping things ticking by maintaining possession with a 91 percent pass accuracy, per WhoScored.com.

As good as he was last season for Real Madrid, Ramos, in all likelihood, has only two years left in him as a starter for Los Blancos. The man has gotten even better in the last few years since turning 30, but, at the age of 34, Ramos’ years are numbered. So Real must think of future replacements for the captain as Raphael Varane’s center back partner.

He are five ideal options to keep in mind in the 2021 transfer window and beyond.
