Real Madrid Femenino make the ninth signing of the season by signing 22-year-old central defender Claudia Florentino from Fundación Albacete.

Primera Iberdrola is yet to begin, but Real Madrid Femenino have got the preparations for their debut season well underway, both on and off the pitch. Having signed eight players already, David Aznar has reportedly added yet another player to the team in the form of 22-year-old Claudia Florentino.

Claudia Florentino was born in Valencia, joining the Valencia youth academy and representing the Valencia B team between 2013 and 2017, before making the switch to Fundación Albacete, a team fighting to survive relegation in Primera Iberdrola year after year. She has the experience of playing two seasons in the Primera Iberdrola, playing the 2019-20 season in Reto Iberdrola (Spain’s second division of women’s football).

Real Madrid Femenino have signed the central defender for just €20,000, which is probably the first time in Fundación Albacete’s history that they have received a transfer fee for a player. Don’t be deceived by the paltry transfer fee as Claudia Florentino is highly talented.

In the three years she spent with Fundación Albacete, she was probably the best player in their squad, delivering outstanding performance after performance. Her stature grew after every season. The 2018-19 season was the icing on the cake, as she was the rightful recipient of the Trofeo Futbol Draft de Oro (Golden Soccer Draft Trophy) as the best left central defender in Primera Iberdrola.

Claudia Florentino will bring versatility to Real Madrid

Versatility is another aspect that makes this budding player even more special. She can play in the middle third of the pitch with just as much ease as while playing at the heart of the defence. She’s a quick player which a good passing range, ready to leave everything on the pitch to ensure her team has the upper hand all the time.

It’s her incredible fighting spirit at such a young age that has convinced Real Madrid of her quality. With the right blend of being very young and having a good amount of experience under her belt will help her settle at Real Madrid Femenino.

It’s not certain at this point whether she will be a starter or play as a backup defender. Real Madrid already have centre-backs like Babett Peter, Ivana Andrés, and Daiane who might just be ahead of Claudia Florentino in the pecking order. However, we, at The Real Champs, would like to welcome the newest member of the Real Madrid family and wish her all the luck!
