Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard will have a key role to play in the squad for 2020-2021, and he’s already making a big impression in training.

All eyes will be on Martin Odegaard on Sunday in Real Madrid‘s season opener when the Royal Whites travel to the Anoeta Stadium to take on Real Sociedad, whom Odegaard shined for in a marvelous 2019-2020 breakout season.

Odegaard was initially set to spend another year on loan with La Real, competing in the Europa League after leading the club to European football in 2020-2021. But after Los Blancos were embarrassed in the Champions League Round of 16 by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, Zinedine Zidane decided to call Odegaard up to the first team.

According to a report from Augustin Martin of AS, Martin Odegaard is already drawing rave reviews in training for Real Madrid. He reports that Odegaard is “regularly” praised in training, receiving rounds of applause from both teammates and manager Zinedine Zidane alike.

Martin Odegaard impressing at training with Real Madrid is no shock

It’s not really a surprise to hear that Odegaard is turning heads in training, because fans are well-aware of his technical qualities, vision, and football IQ. We saw how good Odegaard was for Sociedad last season as a playmaker in the middle of the park or a little wider, pulling the strings for one of Europe’s most exciting attacks.

Madridistas cannot wait to see Odegaard pick up where he left off in 2020-2021 for Los Blancos. Zidane may ease him into the proceedings, and there is a lot of competition in midfield with veteran players like Toni Kroos and Luka Modric still playing at a high level.

But Odegaard will earn his place. By shining in training, Odegaard is showing his teammates that he is “for real” and earning more credit with Zidane. Even if he does not start against La Real on Sunday, perhaps he can make an appearance off the bench and make some magic happen in San Sebastian one more time.
