Real Madrid have been shopping standout left back Sergio Reguilon, and it looks like Tottenham are about to steal this deal away from Manchester United.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton. Several Premier League clubs have been linked to Real Madrid left back Sergio Reguilon this summer, as these teams see the opportunity to sign one of Europe’s most exciting fullbacks due to the young man’s need to receive regular playing time in 2020-2021.

At first, it seemed like United were the clear favorites to sign Reguilon, and they were even reportedly close to making a deal happen.

But then, The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported that Reguilon was suddenly “close” to agreeing to terms with Jose Mourinho and Tottenham Hotspur.

Now, Miguel Angel Diaz of COPE reports that Real Madrid are indeed “close” to sending Sergio Reguilon to Tottenham. And the details seem to favor Los Blancos.

Sergio Reguilon still wants to play for Real Madrid in the future

Whereas Manchester United were reportedly uninterested in meeting the asking price of 30 million euros, which was reasonable, and understandably did not want to include a buy-back clause, COPE reports that Tottenham seem to have no issues with either. Spurs are prepared to pay 30 million euros for the Europa League winner and allow Real Madrid a chance to buy him back for 5-10 million euros more than that.

Reguilon still wants to play for Real in the future, so the buy-back clause is both good for him and the club. Los Merengues usually like to insert buy-back clauses in deals or sell a portion of player’s rights. They even did that this summer with Oscar Rodriguez and also added a “right of first refusal” clause when they sold star man Achraf Hakimi to Inter Milan.

In Reguilon, Tottenham would be getting a wonderful left back who can create chances, dribble past defenders, start attacks, and find that killer pass or cross into the box. He’s an ascending player whom Real may not have space for in the future if Miguel Gutierrez continues his development, but Los Blancos wisely wanted to keep that buy-back option open.

dark. Next. Tottenham also want another Real Madrid player

Nothing is official yet, but it looks like Tottenham have swooped in and stolen a good player from a complacent, stingy United side.
