Defenders

Dani Carvajal – 7/10

Dani Carvajal looked good on the right-hand side. He defended well and kept things in check. The former Castilla player won five tackles and four aerial duels.

The Spanish right-back made himself an outlet in attack as well. Carvajal sent a lovely ball in towards the six-yard box for Rodrygo, and a powerful strike from outside the box, forcing Alex Remiro into a save.

Sergio Ramos – 7.5/10

Sergio Ramos is 34 years old and still putting out performances like he is in his prime. A solid display at the back from the Merengues captain.

Ramos also showed how beneficial he is in Madrid’s build-up play. He completed 87 passes at an astounding 97 percent accuracy, including 12 out of 12 longballs.

Raphael Varane – 8/10

Raphael Varane had a horrendous performance against Manchester City in the Champions League last season. A lessor player would have found it hard to come back from such a situation. However, it looks like the French World Cup Winner has returned stronger than before with a brilliant performance against Real Sociedad.

Varane won three aerial duels, completed three interceptions, two clearances, and made a vital block to deny David Silva from scoring the game-winner.

Ferland Mendy – 7/10

Ferland Mendy has established himself as the starting left-back in this Real Madrid team. He continues to be a bright spot in the backline for Los Blancos.

The former Lyon player contributed with three interceptions and two clearances. Mendy also completed three dribbles and had two keys passes.
