The new season brings new questions for Real Madrid. Can Real retain the league? Will Eden Hazard justify his talents? Will Martin Ødegaard help Real perform better in the final third?
Real Madrid kicked off their new season against Basque side Real Sociedad. Having played just one preseason match and not more than three weeks of training under their belt, the team looked a bit off the pace as the match ended in a scoreless draw.
A surprise inclusion in the lineup was Norwegian superstar Martin Ødegaard. Zidane deployed him as the most advanced midfielder in a three-man midfield setup, playing as a pure number 10, functioning between the lines, and finding pockets of space in transition to lay it off for the wingers/full-backs.
However, Real Madrid would have definitely hoped to get a win to start on the right note. There are a lot of questions heading into the 2020-21 season to cover. There hasn’t been a single new signing barring the returns of Martin Ødegaard, Borja Mayoral, and Álvaro Odriozola from loan.
The season is already underway, but we still have a few questions after that opening game.
