Real Madrid returned to action for the new season with a draw vs. Real Sociedad.

Los Blancos kicked off their title defense with a draw away to Real Sociedad. The Whites started brightly but ran out of gas in the second half and couldn’t score a goal. The team looked tired as the second half wore on and couldn’t play at their best and failed to score a winner. Thankfully, the team didn’t concede either and secured at least a point.

The lack of pre-season games clearly showed in the way the players played in the second half. The team just couldn’t put in their best and looked tired by the 60th minute. It wasn’t all bad news for Los Blancos, though. The team showed a lot of positives, and most players performed well. These three players were good and were the bright spots in an otherwise disappointing result.

3.Raphaël Varane

It’s safe to say that Raphaël Varane is handling his debacle at the Etihad in the right way. In the first game after the City game for Real Madrid, Varane looked more like the defender that Madridistas have become accustomed to over the years.

At Anoeta, Varane was Madrid’s best defender and was a wall in defense. In the second half, as the Whites poured forward to look for a winner, Varane’s pace and positioning were crucial to mop up any Sociedad counters. He was brilliant and dealt with anything that came to him.

It was a reassuring performance from the French central defender and a good sign for the coming season for the Real Madrid defense.
