Real Madrid: How does Fede Valverde fit into the 2020-21 season?
Fede Valverde is one of many talented players in the Real Madrid midfield.
Real Madrid began their 2020-21 season, and they are blessed with numerous quality midfielders in their squad. Let’s see how the Uruguayan midfielder Fede Valverde fits in this squad for the upcoming season.
Top football clubs struggle to find quality midfielders and maintain the squad depth but here in Madrid the numbers and quality are not a problem at all. The midfield trio of Kroos, Casemiro, and Modric has been astonishing over the years, and not to forget Isco. This year young midfielders Fede Valverde and Martin Ødegaard will be the ones to watch out for.
Fede Valverde who was amazing last season and Zidane’s favorite is set to play his second season with Los Blancos. Getting a place in the starting XI won’t be an easy task for the Uruguayan. With Martin Ødegaard back in the squad, it’s a difficult job for Zidane to align the midfield for a game. But with so much depth in midfield, it also an advantage to focus on every competition.
Real Madrid has a huge squad depth it affects the playing time of some players and Fede Valverde might face this problem in this season. But Zidane knows how to use the squad, the season is long with so many competitions ahead of Zidane to focus on.
How will Zinedine Zidane use Fede Valverde?
Last season, Valverde played most of the time ahead of Modric. But since June 2020, the Croatian has been delivering amazing performances, he looks sharps and this might be his last season for Real Madrid. No fans would mind seeing Modric ahead of any youngster this season; he has given so much to this club and deserves everything.
Now about his position. With Ødegaard back in Zidane has to choose three players for one position but in the La Liga opener against La Real, the Norwegian played as an attacking midfielder. Both Ødegaard and Valverde are young, they can adapt to the new position and style of play.
Valverde is a versatile player he is good in both offensive and defensive phases. Zidane might use him as CDM in Casemiro’s absence with the defensive abilities he has with him. But for now, the ideal position for him would be the position he has been playing for all this time. But a part of me says his position might change in the coming years.
Valverde’s playing time this season might play less than last season with so much of depth in midfield, though he will play in all competitions. Zidane will use Valverde mostly in every game as a starter or as a substitute. With Valverde in the squad, Zidane can rotate the squad week in and week out. Giving rest to players like Modric and Kroos will be important. Zidane won’t ignore this as they are useful in the Champions League games ahead.
Challenges for Valverde would be playing time, but to be a part of Real Madrid’s future you have to be patient and wait for your chance to come. Expectations from Valverde will be to show his all Commitment and energy in all the games he is being called up for.
Valverde is great, he will fit in this squad very well this season. He is the future of Madrid. Zidane knows this and will grant him minutes according to that and that minutes Valverde will surely show his potential in it. I want to see more from Modric this season, as it could be his last season with Real Madrid. Valverde must be patient. We all know he will shine in royal white very soon.
