Real Madrid striker Borja Mayoral is set to move before the transfer window closes in October, and Los Blancos are in negotiations with another Serie A club.

Borja Mayoral had a mini-breakout season for Levante in 2019-2020, scoring eight goals with two assists while on loan at the La Liga club. Although there have been rumblings that Mayoral, who was named in Zinedine Zidane’s 22-man squad for both of the first two matches, could stay with Real Madrid for the 2020-2021 season, he is still expected to leave this window.

According to a report from Sky Sport Italia, via Get Italian Football News, AS Roma have agreed to personal terms with Borja Mayoral. Roma’s interest comes after they struck out on Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik as Edin Dzeko’s replacement. Their derby rivals, Lazio, also had interest in Mayoral before moving in another direction.

While Mayoral’s had a few other suitors, such as Valencia, nobody has been as seriously interested in the player as Lazio or Roma. And now, it looks like the Roma move could happen.

Real Madrid want a loan deal with an option to buy for Borja Mayoral

Sky Sport Italia report that Real Madrid would like to loan Mayoral to Roma with an option to buy included in the deal.

If Mayoral were to be loaned, he’d be the second player to move to Serie A on loan this season from Los Blancos. Brahim Diaz is currently on loan at Milan and impressing early on, and his deal does not include an option to buy due to his promise.

While Mayoral is a good player, he isn’t good enough to be a standout at Real Madrid. Luka Jovic is already the main backup striker behind Karim Benzema and is fighting for his place to be considered the future No. 9. A lot hangs in the balance for Jovic, considering the links to Erling Haaland in 2022.
