Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic is available for loan, but the Serie A isn’t the only landing spot. Manchester United has come calling.
Manchester United are on the verge of acquiring La Liga star Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona, in the hopes that the former Borussia Dortmund starlet can regain his form and health. But United aren’t done shopping for young talented forwards in La Liga, as they are also being linked to Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic.
According to a report from AS, Luka Jovic seems “certain” to leave Real Madrid before the Oct. 5 transfer deadline. Jovic’s name has come up frequently in transfer rumors as a possible loanee, as Los Blancos want him to play every week. They want Jovic to get experience, grow, and gain confidence.
AS reports that Manchester United have shown interest in Jovic, though they are also showing interest in Edinson Cavani, who was previously linked to Los Blancos. Cavani would make no sense for Real, but as a free transfer, he could be a boon to United’s attack.
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer wants to bolster his attack with another goal-scoring option. Signing Cavani would be a safe option, but signing Jovic on loan would be an exciting move for United. They recently tried to acquire Sergio Reguilon at left back but balked at giving Real Madrid an option to buy. Tottenham swooped in and took advantage.
Manchester United must give Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic playing time
We’ll see if United and Real can have better luck negotiating this time for Jovic, who has suitors in Serie A ready to give him playing time. In this case, Real aren’t looking for money with Jovic. What they want is to find a place Jovic can regularly play and gain the confidence he needs to be successful for Los Blancos. After spending 60 million euros on him from Eintracht Frankfurt, they won’t just give up.
Manchester United have Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in attack but not much depth. Jovic wouldn’t be guaranteed regular starts at United, though the path to playing time there would be easier than at some other clubs, including Milan. Still, he could fight for his place, even if starting for United isn’t as easy as, say, starting at Roma if Edin Dzeko goes.
The Red Devils will have to convince Los Blancos and prove themselves trustworthy. Luka Jovic and Real Madrid want the same thing. They want Jovic to play and get better. Let’s see how serious United are about this move, but they may ultimately settle for Cavani on a free.
