Real Madrid left winger Eden Hazard will miss another game with an injury.
It has been a frustrating year for Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard, who suffered two setbacks on the ankle he injured last season. Hazard has not been able to debut for Los Blancos in his second season with the club, which he has earmarked as a season to redeem himself.
It seemed like Hazard would be able to play off the bench against Real Valladolid on Wednesday in Madrid’s home opener at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano. Hazard was listed in the official squad for the first time this season, indicating that Zinedine Zidane saw an opportunity to give the Belgian superstar some minutes on Matchday 4.
Instead, Hazard won’t be playing at all. He has been dropped from the squad with a muscular injury in his right leg.
Per a report from COPE’s Miguel Angel Diaz, Eden Hazard’s latest injury is unrelated to his ankle. But it is nonetheless discouraging for Madridistas to hear that the 100 million euro signing from Chelsea is dealing with another injury.
Further reporting from Miguel Angel Diaz states that Hazard could miss three to four weeks. Note that Real will face Barcelona on Oct. 25.
Real Madrid must continue to be cautious with Eden Hazard
Hazard’s been dealt a terrible hand luck-wise since joining Real Madrid, unable to be the key superstar in the attack that Los Blancos need. At the time, Hazard’s signing was viewed as crucial in Madrid due to the player’s ability to score, create, make everyone around him better, and produce moments of magic.
We saw glimpses of the latter two of those traits at the end of 2019 before his injury against PSG, and Madridistas can only hope his latest injury does not linger. Remember, Real Madrid won’t – and shouldn’t – take any risk with Hazard’s health going forward. When in doubt, sit him out. That’s the policy for Los Blancos.
In the meantime, Vinicius Junior should get the start against Real Valladolid, and he should have an even better game than his decent outing against Real Sociedad in the opener.
