Real Madrid defeated Real Valladolid after a game-changing substitution. Here are five takeaways from another tough victory.

Just like last weekend against Real Betis, Real Madrid should have scored more goals in their mid-week victory over Real Valladolid. In the end, they will take the three points after a 1-0 win, courtesy of a finish from second-half substitute Vinicius Junior.

Here are the biggest takeaways from the match as Los Blancos remain undefeated during their title defense campaign.

Luka Modric makes it all tick for Real Madrid

Luka Modric has now started all three games for Real Madrid to begin the 2020-2021 La Liga season, and he’s been brilliant in all of them. From start to finish, Modric was excellent, creating chances and crafting moves in the middle of the park.

At the heart of much of what was good for Zinedine Zidane’s side on Wednesday, Modric recorded a jaw-dropping four key passes and six dribbles completed to lead Los Blancos in both statistical categories on Matchday 4. The Croatian star also drew two fouls with two tackles and a team-high four interceptions to highlight his defensive contributions.

Modric is one of the best midfielders in Europe and is showing no signs of slowing down at 35. He is aging like a fine wine for Real Madrid. And he had an impressive moment near the end of the match to show his energy, winning the ball back near the penalty box and hitting the post on the shot he created.
