Real Madrid: Zinedine Zidane still wants to manage Paul Pogba

Real Madrid were frequently linked to Paul Pogba in 2019 before Fede Valverde’s breakout season, but it seems like the ship has sailed now.

Paul Pogba has two new stars in midfield at Manchester United in Bruno Fernandes and Donny van de Beek, both of whom were, like Pogba, linked to Real Madrid in 2019. The French midfielder has made three Premier League appearances so far this season, averaging 2.3 dribbles per game, 2.3 fouls drawn per game, and 1.7 tackles per game, according to WhoScored.com.

After Real Madrid wisely decided not to given in to Manchester United’s massive asking price for Pogba, it seem as if it is impossible for the player to ever join forces with Zinedine Zidane, who was the one pushing Florentino Perez to sign the midfielder before last season.

This summer, Los Blancos were never going to sign any players due to the current financial crisis, even declining a pre-agreed deal for van de Beek. Their target is to sign Kylian Mbappe, Eduardo Camavinga, and more in 2021.

According to AS, it seems as if Zinedine Zidane has not given up on bringing Paul Pogba to Real Madrid and managing the best midfielder in the French national team. AS writes that Zidane still wants to manage Pogba one day, even though Fede Valverde has emerged as a star player.

Fede Valverde makes Paul Pogba extremely unlikely for Real Madrid

Valverde had big performances in important matches for Los Blancos last season. He has started the 2020-2021 season brightly, too, ranking as one of the top three players on Real Madrid through the first four matches.

Pogba will always be expensive, but he is also one of the world’s best. At Real Madrid with Zidane as his coach, Pogba would be able to reach his full potential. How many players have fulfilled their potential at Manchester United since Sir Alex Ferguson left? You can count that number on just one hand, unfortunately.

This deal is never going to happen, but I don’t blame Zidane if he still wants to work with a player as technically gifted, tactically intelligent, and hard-working as Pogba.
