Real Madrid attacking midfielder Isco is receiving interest from Inter Milan, but they’re going to have to do a lot better than this.

Over the summer, there were more transfer rumors circling around Isco, because Real Madrid needed to make sales. Isco was never really at risk of being sold, but if the right offer came, he wasn’t unsellable either.

In the end, Real Madrid wisely decided to keep Isco and resist any exchanges, though it’s highly unlikely they received any tempting offers. There were rumors about an Isco and Paulo Dybala swap with Juventus, but those rumors never had a shot of coming to fruition. Why would Real want Dybala? And why would Juve want to swap him?

However, Madridistas can expect the Isco rumors to return, as they did in the last winter and summer transfer windows. And indeed, there is already one just days after the 2020 summer transfer window ended.

According to a report from Defensa Central, Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte wants to acquire Isco from Real Madrid to give his team some playmaking and attacking star power. Conte is said to like Isco and would want Inter to offer someone he does not favor as much, Christian Eriksen.

Isco is still important to Real Madrid

Recall that when Eriksen was disgruntled with his situation at Tottenham and wanted a new contract and challenge, he was linked heavily with Real Madrid. But Los Blancos realized by the time the winter transfer market began, he would be a luxury player and not worth signing for anything other than a free deal. So instead, Eriksen went to Inter, where the 28-year-old has struggled.

Defensa Central note that Isco is an important player in the squad to Zinedine Zidane, and the French manager’s love for Isco is no secret. And he is an important player, as evidenced by his performances this year against Osasuna, Barcelona, Manchester City, and most recently Real Betis as a difference-making substitution.

Eriksen is not on Isco’s level. In fact, he’s not even on Real Madrid’s level, based on his poor performances these last few seasons. He is too one-dimensional as a playmaker for Los Blancos and would struggle to meet the standard.

Conte and Inter may not have a use for Eriksen, and it’s no surprise they like Isco. But this swap deal does not interest Real Madrid, and it should never interest Real Madrid. If any club wants Isco, they must do a whole lot better than this.
