Real Madrid were linked to center midfielder Paul Pogba frequently last year, but those rumors have mostly come to a pause.

Ever since Fede Valverde’s emergence in the Real Madrid midfield last Fall, Paul Pogba has begun to look increasingly more like a luxury signing for Los Blancos than anything approaching a necessity. And with younger French midfielders Eduardo Camavinga and Houssem Aouar standing out, Pogba has been deprioritized further.

Still, Zinedine Zidane seems to continue to think of a Pogba move in the back of his mind, having pushed Florentino Perez to sign his preferred midfield option in 2019. Manchester United asked for too much and Real Madrid had already spent 300 million euros in total that summer, including 100 million euros on superstar Eden Hazard, so Pogba was out of the question.

Settled at Manchester United after no deal to Juventus or any other club could materialize in the current financial market, Pogba continues to dream of a move to Real Madrid.

In an interview with RMC Sport, Paul Pogba noted that “all” players would love to play for a club like Real Madrid but also did not shy away from saying that it is, in fact, a dream of his to one day play for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid fans should not be surprised that Paul Pogba wants to play there

That statement from the former Juventus star doesn’t surprise any Madridistas, who have understood that Pogba has long wanted to play at the Santiago Bernabeu under Zidane. He isn’t the only player who dreams of Los Blancos, of course, as the aforementioned Camavinga seems to have designs on being a star player in the heart of midfield for the Royal Whites.

Pogba is a wonderful player. There is no doubt in my mind that if he were to play for Real with Zidane as his manager and players like Fede and Martin Odegaard around him, he would play the best football of his life and could even challenge for Ballon d’Or.

Next. Real Madrid have three of the generation's best. dark

But with younger options, United seemingly not backing down, and a player like Toni Kroos in his prime, Pogba is not a likely option despite the apparent mutual interest between Zidane and the French superstar.
