Real Madrid would like to sign a world-class midfielder in the summer 2021 transfer window after not making any signings this year.
Los Blancos are clearly playing the waiting game with the transfer market. This summer, Real Madrid stuck to their word. No major signings. They have eyes on Kylian Mbappe in 2021, yes, but attackers aren’t the only transfer targets on Florentino Perez’s watchlist. He and Zinedine Zidane have eyes on several young midfielders, too, such as Rennes’ Eduardo Camavinga and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.
The two young stars were among Europe’s best midfielders in 2019-2020. Camavinga, in particular, looks like a future superstar. He is a well-rounded midfielder who can do pretty much anything in the middle of the park. Camavinga is a great defensive player, a genius in the attacking end, and works like almost nobody else.
So while Paul Pogba and even N’Golo Kante will be mentioned as possible transfer targets for Los Blancos, Real have more interest in a younger center midfielder.
According to a report from El Espanol’s Jorge Pacheco, Real Madrid see Eduardo Camavinga as their “chosen one” among possible midfield signings in the 2021 summer transfer market. To Real, he is ahead of Pogba and Kante as a priority target.
Eduardo Camavinga makes sense as Real Madrid’s top midfield priority
It makes sense. Camavinga is just 17, but he had a better 2019-2020 season than either Pogba or Kante. While it is presumptuous to say that Camavinga is better than either player, he is on that track already as a teenager. He is already world-class and would not be out of place at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2021-2022. Therefore, you can only imagine how good he would be in, say, five years.
Aouar is worth keeping in mind. And there are other midfielders whom Real Madrid should monitor, including Leicester City defensive midfield stalwart Wilfred Ndidi.
But Camavinga is the “chosen one” indeed. There are no alternatives to what Camavinga can bring to the table for Real Madrid both in terms of all-around quality and future potential.
