Rating – 6.25/10

Karim Benzema ended the 2019-20 season brilliantly. However, the beginning of the new season was rather contrasting. He didn’t score any goals in September although he did assist Fede Valverde against Real Betis, the only game where he was convincing (to some extent).

Benz was also tried in a two-striker setup alongside Luka Jović. To be honest, it looked promising against Real Valladolid.

Rating – 6/10

Luka Jović’s month was a tale of two games – Real Betis and Real Valladolid. Against Real Betis, he looked disoriented on the pitch and did little to force an issue. Against Valladolid, however, the Serbian played better than Karim Benzema and probably played his best half in a Real Madrid shirt.

The Spaniard made two substitute appearances and failed to make much impact, although he did win a penalty against Real Betis. He has been loaned out to Roma for two seasons.

Real Madrid’s third-choice striker has been recovering from an injury, training indoors. He didn’t make a single appearance.

The charismatic Belgian is out injured, hence did not feature at all during the month of September.

Rating – 7/10

Vinícius Júnior got a start in the first match of the season, playing almost the entire match in a 0-0 stalemate against Real Sociedad. He didn’t feature at all against Real Betis, before coming off the bench against Real Valladolid and scoring the winner in a scrappy 1-0 win.

He hasn’t yet been at his destructive best, but he has started the season well, at least statistically. With Eden Hazard out for another week or two, he might be given a few more starts, possibly the El Clasico too.

Since he was recovering from an injury, he missed the first two games of the season, making a substitute appearance against Real Valladolid for the last 33 minutes. He was energetic and tried to work his magic, having an indirect hand in the goal Vinícius Júnior scored.

Rodrygo

Rating – 5.5/10

Rodrygo made just one appearance all September, in the opening game against Real Sociedad. Operating on the right side of the attack, he was unconvincing apart from a few instances here and there, and it’s clear that he is not comfortable at right wing even though he scored a hattrick from that position last season.

Missing out the opener against Real Sociedad, the winger made his return to the squad for the game against Real Betis and Real Valladolid, but was an unused substitute in both the games.

The Castilla prospect made his first team debut for Real Madrid against Real Sociedad, coming on for the final 20 minutes. For all his endeavour, he couldn’t make any impact.

Another Castilla product that made his first team debut for Real Madrid on the same night, Sergio Arribas had very little time to change the scoreline.
