Real Madrid fans can get busy voting for the Goal 50, because Los Blancos are, as expected, well-represented on the shortlist.

The Goal 50 is a ranking of the world’s top 50 players from the 2019-2020 season, and the final list of 50 will be unveiled on Nov. 11 with user votes taken into account. Out of the 100 players available for fans to choose from, Real Madrid have eight players on the list, showing just how strong this squad is.

Who are the players on the shortlist? Center backs Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane are, of course, mainstays. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, the 2019-2020 Zamora Trophy winner, is on the list. In midfield, Toni Kroos and Casemiro made it after exceptional seasons, and rising star Fede Valverde wasn’t snubbed either. It was good to see him recognized.

Elsewhere, attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard is on the shortlist after a sensational 2019-2020 campaign on loan at Real Sociedad. The only true forward on the list for Real Madrid is striker Karim Benzema, who was arguably the most valuable player in La Liga alongside Lionel Messi last season.

Real Madrid have six players who should be in the final top 50

If anyone on Real Madrid was snubbed, then left back Ferland Mendy has a strong case. It’s hard to get recognized as a left back, unless you are Alphonso Davies, but Mendy deserved a shout for being the best defensive fullback in Europe last season.

Still, it’s good to see so many Madrid players available. Fans can select 10 out of the 100 player for their vote, ranking them in order. Then, Goal will compile all the results and produce a top 50 in a few weeks.

Next. The 5 players Real Madrid should have never sold. dark

Here’s to hoping we see a few Real Madrid players make the final cut. I have a feeling Kroos, Casemiro, Ramos, Varane, Courtois, and Benzema, have a strong case of making it into the top 50. In fact, I would be shocked if one of these six players is left off the final list after the sensational seasons they had for Los Blancos.
