Real Madrid center back Sergio Ramos left Saturday’s loss to Cadiz with a knee injury, but he could return this week.

The injuries continue to mount for Real Madrid, particularly in defense. Los Blancos are already without their two right backs, as Dani Carvajal will miss months with an MCL injury while Alvaro Odriozola has also been out for the last couple of weeks.

Now, center back and captain Sergio Ramos may have to miss a game, as he left the pitch on Saturday evening at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano with discomfort in his left knee. He was substituted at half-time for Eder Militao, who played well in the captain’s absence once again, though Ramos’ injury meant that an inspiration for a comeback was thwarted.

Real Madrid are reeling, and they need Ramos to be back in the lineup soon. But they also don’t want to rush anything, since an aggravation or long-term absence could be catastrophic. Note Los Blancos’ Champions League record without the captain.

Sergio Ramos will try to play for Real Madrid against Shakhtar Donetsk

According to a report from MARCA, Sergio Ramos will do everything he can to play against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday for Real Madrid’s 2020-2021 Champions League opener.

It seems that Ramos is not seriously injured, and his aim is to at least be ready for El Clasico on Saturday at the Camp Nou. After both Barcelona and Real lost on Saturday, this Clasico becomes even more pivotal. Even an early-season Clasico can decide the title race.

All eyes will be on Ramos as he does rehab work and attempts to play on Wednesday. As last year’s draw with Club Brugge showed, no team in the competition can be underestimated. But with Militao playing so well recently, it may be in Real’s best interests to tell their captain to slow things down before the Clasico. Of course, Ramos will do everything he can to play anyway.
