Defenders

Nacho Fernandez – 5.5/10

Nacho worked hard in defense and made four clearances. However, he often got overrun on the right. He also didn’t offer much going forward and showed how crucial Dani Carvajal is to this Real Madrid side. Nacho only had 42 touches in the match, while Carvajal normally gets the most touches alongside Toni Kroos.

Raphael Varane – 7/10

Varane had his worked cut out for him early in the first half with his defensive teammates frailing around him. He improved as the game went on and had an excellent second half. He won six aerial duels, five interceptions, and completed five clearances.

Sergio Ramos – 5/10

Sergio Ramos made a brilliant goal-line save early in the first half. Other than that, he did not have the best of games.

The Spain National Team captain allowed Lozano to get goal-side, and he also got into a couple of rough challenges that could have got him in trouble. Ramos hurt his knee in one of the challenges and got replaced at half-time.

Marcelo – 4.5/10

Marcelo looks well past his prime. He offered very little at the back and looked a shell of his former self in the attack. The Brazillian did not have any successful take-on or key passes.

Midfielders

Luka Modric – 5/10

Luka Modric had a poor game by his standards. The Croatian looked tired and sluggish on the ball. It was not a big surprise as the former Balon d’Or winner had played two 90 minutes for Croatia during the international break. He got substituted at half-time.

Toni Kroos – 6/10

Toni Kroos returned from injury and immediately into the starting eleven. He struggled in the first half to stamp his authority and control the game. He got better as the game went on.

The German crossed an excellent ball towards Vinicius in the second half, only for the Brazillian to scoff his header wide. He got replaced in the 78th minute, as Zidane sent in Luka Jovic in search of an equalizer.

Isco – 6/10

Isco didn’t have a great game, but he looked like the only player who was going to create something for Real Madrid in the first half. He completed four dribbles and released a couple of good passes, but none of them turned into anything substantial.

The Andalusian was also not helped by a very static front three. He was part of the four changes Zidane made at half-time.
