Who should Real Madrid target in the 2021 transfer window?

Real Madrid have not made any major changes to their lineup through the transfer window in 2020. However, the hope is for Real Madrid to buy sporadical talent next summer.

Here are some of the players Real Madrid have a realistic shot with:

DM Eduardo Camavinga

Eduardo Camavinga is a personal favorite of mine. Last season at Rennes, Camavinga averaged 4.2 tackles per and 1.4 interceptions per game in 2019. This season, Camavinga is averaging 2.7 tackles and 1 interception (WhoScored). Now, does Real Madrid need Camavinga? Yes, they do. They lack depth in the midfield and Casemiro is the only defensive midfielder the club has and Camavinga would be one of the youngest players to get playing time in the midfield if he were to come to Madrid next summer.

As of right now, Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain are in the Camavinga sweepstakes. PSG definitely have more leverage than Real Madrid because Camavinga plays in the Ligue 1 and the President of PSG has a great relationship with the President of Rennes, and that always goes a long way.

ST Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland is another 19-year-old target on Real Madrid’s radar. Haaland is one of the most prolific strikers in the world at Borussia Dortmund after moving from RB Salzburg last year in December. After a year in Dortmund, he has picked up interest from all over Europe. in 2019, he amassed 13 goals and 4 assists in just a half-season in the Bundesliga! Haaland also had 10 goals in the UEFA Champions League for RB Salzburg before moving to Borussia Dortmund.

This year, in just four games, he has so far tallied 6 goals and 3 assists in all competitions. Haaland is a generational athlete he possesses pace, agility, power, and strength. These 4 qualities are what Real Madrid need at striker. They have had it Karim Benzema. Now, they just need to find their future to learn from Benzema and keeping the striker tradition going, and Erling Haaland fits that category nicely.

CB Dayot Upamecano

Real Madrid have an excellent pair of centre backs in Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos. However, when one of them are hurt, the back line looks very suspect. Enter Dayot Upamecano. He is one of the most smartest defenders, and is already one of top players at his position at the age of 21. Upamecano is an extremely gifted player. He could not produce as much over at RB Leipzig due to injury two years ago.

However, the following year he blossomed into being visible in the starting lineup the following year. Since then, Real Madrid are watching. Of course, the price is variable for all footballers, but the price for Upamecano has to be in the region of 60-70M euros which is not a bad value, but a value in which RB Leipzig would be obligated to sell.  Again, he is the perfect replacement for Ramos for when he leaves the club, but the price these days are severely increased due to the market.

ST Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe has been a target for Real Madrid for quite some time now. He is already considered one of the world’s best footballers. He is known for his speed, dribbling, and clinical finishing. Quite honestly, Mbappe can repeat the Cristiano Ronaldo era if he were to come to Madrid next summer. The statistics do the talking for Mbappe. In a 129 games at PSG, he tallied 94 goals and 55 assists.

He will cost Real Madrid north of 200M euros. It will surpass the Neymar record-breaking transfer to PSG a few years ago. All in all, the narrative is Real Madrid needs goals. The only “dangerous” goal scorer the team has is Karim Benzema. They will always get goals from Vinicius Jr, Marco Asensio, etc, but, there is a lack of goal scoring that needs to be fixed sooner or later.
