Real Madrid CM Luka Modric

Luka Modric has been incredible this season. I can’t sing his praises enough, but his last two goals tell you a lot of the story. When Real Madrid looked down and out against Shakhtar Donetsk last week, Modric gave them a glimmer of hope with an absolutely outstanding goal from outside the box that was the best goal of the week in the Champions League.

Then on Saturday, Modric came off the bench for the injured Fede Valverde (he’s fine now, don’t worry) and delivered another world-class performance. Modric made tackles, found solutions on the ball, and, of course, sealed the game with a marvelous individual goal to embarrass Frenkie de Jong and the Barcelona defense.

It’s amazing what Modric is doing in midfield at the age of 35, as most midfielders with his mileage and class don’t keep playing this well. Modric remains one of the best players in Europe, and outside of a poor game against Cadiz, he’s been Real’s best outfield player throughout the 2020-2021 season thus far.

According to WhoScored.com, Modric has two key passes per game and 1.8 dribbles completed per match in La Liga. Modric will go up against a Borussia Monchengladbach midfield without star man Denis. Zakaria. He could boss this game, which would be crucial for Los Blancos.
