Real Madrid vs. Inter Milan: Three Potential MOTM Candidates
By Parshva Shah
Real Madrid take on Serie A giants Inter Milan in a crucial UEFA Champions League group stage match.
The results of the first two games in the UEFA Champions League group stage have not gone in Real Madrid‘s favour. An excruciating 3-2 loss in the opener against Shakhtar Donetsk and a last-gasp draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach have raised a lot of eyebrows (when have they not?).
What works in Real Madrid’s favour, though, is the fact that table-toppers Shakhtar Donetsk have collected four points. Inter and Mönchengladbach have just two points, while Los Blancos lie at the bottom of the table with just a solitary point.
There’s no denying the fact that Real Madrid haven’t had the best of starts to this season. That can be attributed to the fact that some players haven’t hit the ground running just yet. For the match against Inter Milan, however, here are three potential man of the match candidates.
Raphaël Varane
Many people would count him off for the Champions League encounter, but he is one of the best defenders in the world, and no one can deny that.
He has endured a tough last few months, starting from the game against Manchester City, where he was responsible for the team conceding both the goals. He hasn’t started the season well either, but expect him to fire on all cylinders tomorrow and produce a match-winning performance at the back.
Casemiro
I consider Casemiro to be one of the most important players on the team, and barely anyone would disagree with me. Casemiro hasn’t started the season in the sort of form that has seen him become the best player in his position.
We all know how consistent the Brazilian can be. The problem is that he hasn’t been at a world-class level so far. Although he did score and assist in the last six minutes against Borussia Mönchengladbach, his role as a ‘destroyer’ has been under the kosh.
I can see a great performance from Casemiro against a very good Inter Milan side.
Marco Asensio
Having returned from an 11-month injury layoff in June, he scored three goals in nine appearances. Call it unfortunate, but Marco Asensio has just not got it right since the 2020-21 season began.
He has zero goal contributions. What’s more, his contributions to the team’s attack have been not that efficient either. However, the game against Borussia Mönchengladbach was Asensio’s best performance this season, and we hope he can carry on in the same vein. A goal is long due for the talented player.
