Real Madrid reportedly has interest in young Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai after he helped the Hungarian national team qualify for Euro 2020.

Real Madrid needs help in the attack. That much is certain. Since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, Los Blancos have struggled to find a reliable goalscorer. Though Karim Benzema has been admirable in his duties as the lead striker, help is still needed.

That is why president Florentino Perez along with manager Zinedine Zidane have targeted 20-year-old midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai of RB Salzburg.

The Hungarian international scored the game winning goal for the national team on Thursday night against Iceland that propelled the country to its fourth ever European Championship.

Szoboszlai has been thriving in Salzburg and has already impressed this season with four goals in the Champions League (two during qualifying and two in the group stage). Paired against formidable opponents – Atletico Madrid,Bayern Munich, and Lokomotiv Moscow – Szoboszlai has shown he is creative with the bal and never afraid to push forward and join the attack.

The thought around the Real Madrid camp is that they could sign the promising player for rather cheap (25 million euros is the current asking price) and with his contract at RB Salzburg set to run out in 2022, Real Madrid could potentially get him for even cheaper if Salzburg are scared he could leave for free.

The problem, as per usual, is that Arsenal, Atletico, and AC Milan have all voiced public interest in acquiring Dominik Szoboszlai.

Real Madrid will win the race to sign Szoboszlai because he fits the system perfectly.

The writing has been on the wall for some time for the current attacking midfielder on the first-team, Isco. Gone are the days where the number 22 glides through the midfield outplaying defenders and creating chances in the attack.

Like we have seen with Marcelo, Isco’s quality has deteriorated substantially in the last couple of years. Why not start over with Dominik Szoboszlai and continue signing young, promising players who can grow organically within the club?

If in fact Real Madrid is to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund in the next several years (fingers crossed), that connection Haaland has with Martin Odegaard after playing together for the Norwegian national team and Haaling’s experience with Szoboszlai while they were both at Salzburg is an incredibly tantalizing thought.

Throw Kylian Mbappe and a healthy Eden Hazard into the mix and Real Madrid will once again be the best team in the world. Mark my words.
