Real Madrid are facing some crucial games in La Liga and the Champions League in the final month-and-a-half of 2020.
Los Blancos have not gotten off to an ideal start in the 2020-2021 season. They are fourth in La Liga and in third in their Champions League group, which means Real Madrid are still at risk of heading to the Europa League.
Now, Madridistas shouldn’t fear the worst, but they should be cautious about their team’s chances of winning titles this season and understand that every single game is critical.
And in the last stretch of 2020, Real Madrid have a handful of incredibly important matches in both La Liga and the Champions League.
Here are the five most important matches left in the calendar year, in chronological order.
Real Madrid at Villarreal, La Liga, Nov. 21
Immediately after the November international break ends, Real Madrid will face off against Villarreal. Right now, Villarreal are second in La Liga and have an exciting team that is exceeding expectations under Unai Emery. Of course, one of their most talented players is Real Madrid loanee Takefusa Kubo, who could cause Los Blancos all sorts of problems with his dribbling and passing. He did impress against them earlier in 2020 at Mallorca.
After the 4-1 loss to Valencia, this match against Villarreal at the Estadio de la Ceramica is a must-win for Real. They need to get back on track and make a statement against a team that is legitimately a title contender in Spain’s top flight this season.
Real will need to keep up with Villarreal’s attack and will need to step up defensively, too. Last season, Real’s defense was the reason why they won the league, but their defense has been dreadful in some games this season. They can’t have an off game against Villarreal.
