Defenders
Lucas Vazquez – 7.5/10
I did not think I would ever say this, but here I am saying Lucas Vazquez was Real Madrid’s best player on the day. He put in five accurate crosses, four key passes with a pass accuracy of 95%, per Whoscored.com. He also performed excellently with his defensive duty.
Raphael Varane – 6.5/10
Varane had a decent game and did the basics right. He did not have a commanding performance as he did against Inter in the midweek but also did not make any mistakes leading to a goal-scoring opportunity.
Nacho Fernandez – 5.5/10
Nacho played well for the majority of the match but did, unfortunately, concede the penalty early in the first half that set the tone of the entire game.
Marcelo – 5/10
While Marcelo cannot take the blame for Real Madrid’s loss, Zidane should consider what the Brazilian brings to the table that positively influences the team. He is positionally a liability at the back and provided no threat in attack anymore.
Midfielders
Casemiro – 7/10
Casemiro started his first game after quarantine and looked like he was slowly getting back to the rhythm. He is still far behind his best performances of last year, but Zidane will be happy that the Brazilian midfielder is available. He won four tackles, two aerial duels, and two interceptions. Casemiro also scored Real Madrid’s only goal.
Luka Modric – 5/10
It was Modric’s fifth straight start within 14 days, and it really showed on his passing. He looked fatigued, and his passes were sloppy.
Toni Kroos – 6/10
Kroos did not have the best of games. The German had to chance to slip in Mariano for the goal but decided to take the shot himself and got denied by Pacheco twice. He couldn’t impose any control over the midfield like he is so used to doing.
