Sergio Ramos has urged the Real Madrid medical team to speed up his recovery process as the Spaniard wants to lead the defence against Sevilla

Sergio Ramos is the pillar of Real Madrid and his recent absence has cost the club and Zinedine Zidane several poor performances including back-to-back defeats to Deportivo Alaves and Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League.

The captain has missed a few crucial games this season including both the fixtures against Inter Milan, the draw against Villarreal, and the consecutive defeats against Alaves and Shakhtar due to a hamstring injury. However, El Desmarque confirms that the 34-year-old Spanish defender has urged the medical team to shorten his recovery process given the fact that Real have important fixtures coming up soon.

This will not be the first team that Sergio Ramos has decided to play professional football while not being deemed fully fit. Ramos had started a cycle of painkiller injections in the 2015/16 season after injuring his shoulder and continued to play for the club while dealing with severe discomfort. The captain had also admitted to consuming a high dose of painkillers before the 2017/18 FIFA Club World Cup final against Gremio.

Sergio Ramos now plans to do the same as he wants to get back into action as soon as possible. Real are set to face Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, and Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish league and in the Champions League, Los Blancos must win against Borussia Monchengladbach to prevent the possibility of entering the UEFA Europa League.

In the 2019/20 season, Real Madrid were set up as one of the best defensive teams, however, the recent run of performances speak otherwise. The return of Ramos in the defence will undoubtedly be a massive bonus for the team given the influence that the Spaniard has while defending and while attacking through set-pieces. The return of Ramos could possibly change Real’s fortunes.
