Dortmund ST Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland is almost as good as Kylian Mbappe. He is not as good as Mbappe, but he isn’t far off either when you look at the sheer production. The Norway international has a career average of 1.42 goals and assists per 90 minutes with Borussia Dortmund and an incredible 1.71 goals and assists per 90 in the Champions League with both RB Salzburg and Dortmund.

He is a goal-scoring machine, and there may not be a better goal-scorer on the planet right now than Haaland besides Cristiano Ronaldo. But, well, that’s a given.

Haaland’s development has accelerated at Dortmund, who play free-flowing attacking football. Out of all of Haaland’s traits, his leadership and link-up play have improved the most at Dortmund, especially in the 2020-2021 season. He has formed a great partnership with Gio Reyna.

At Real Madrid, Haaland could form an even more potent duo with his national teammate, Martin Odegaard, who already assisted him twice in the October international break against Romania. The opportunity to have Odegaard feeding passes to Haaland is one Real cannot pass up on.

Haaland most likely won’t leave in 2021, since Dortmund want to have him for one more season before making a sale, as per a “handshake” agreement between BVB and the striker’s superagent Mino Raiola. It would take a ton of money to sign Haaland before 2022, but Real Madrid may have to make the move if they cannot sign Kylian Mbappe. They need a world-class goal-scorer, and if they are willing to start Haaland over Karim Benzema, then he is the guy at striker.
