Rumour has it that Real Madrid have considered opting to sign Bayern Munich’s vice-captain in the coming winter transfer market

In the 2019/20 summer transfer market, Real Madrid decided against the idea of signing players and remained dormant in the market as the club solely focused on raising funds through selling unwanted players. Los Blancos managed to offload several players including James Rodriguez, Gareth Bale, Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Reguilon, and so on, however, no there were no incoming players apart from Martin Odegaard from Real Sociedad.

Fast forward to today, Real find themselves in deep troubled waters. The defence has been a weak link in this Madrid side this season which is quite contrasting given how solid the backline was in the 2019/20 campaign when the club lifted their 34th La Liga title. The absence of Sergio Ramos in the defense has severely impacted the defense along with Raphael Varane‘s severe dip in form recently.

Having said that, Zinedine Zidane apparently does not trust Eder Militao as an ideal replacement and instead believes that the partnership of Varane and Nacho Fernandez is a better combination. Reports from Todo Fichajes state that Los Blancos are considering to sign Jerome Boateng of Bayern Munich in January and are willing to offer Militao as part of the swap deal.

The rumour seems to be rather ridiculous given the fact that Boateng has regressed severely over the years and there is no reason why he wouldn’t do the same at the Bernabeu. Instead trusting the former Porto man would be an ideal situation as the 22-year-old has the potential to possibly be a starter one day at the club provided he gets ample minutes to lift his confidence.

It has only been a season and a half for Eder Militao at the Spanish capital and discarding him straight away seems rather foolish. Real paid 50 million euros to procure his services from FC Porto in 2019 and offering the player in a straight swap deal for Boateng seems to be rather foolish.
