Two Premier League clubs are pondering over a signing from Real Madrid next year, but it looks very unlikely that they will be able to succeed.

Real Madrid are more likely than ever to finally sign a potent goal-scorer next summer in the shape of Kylian Mbappe. Los Blancos are certainly looking incompetent in front of goal and perhaps, the France international’s signing may be enough for them to pull up. However, given the expensive costs behind the player’s arrival, they may need to sell someone too.

Marco Asensio is the player that the Whites are willing to part with, according to reports. After suffering a major ACL injury last summer, the player returned to the fray earlier this year when La Liga resumed in Spain post-lockdown in June. Asensio scored thrice and assisted once but he has not been able to emulate those number this time around.

So far this season, the former Mallorca attacker has started a large number of games for Zinedine Zidane on the right wing and is yet to score or assist even once in all competitions. With that said, the club believes that 2021 may be the right time to sell him if the 24-year-old does not brush his barren run soon and remains inconsistent.

Premier League giants, Arsenal and Liverpool, are thought to be hovering over his situation. Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp seem to have better squads than before this season around, but their lack of squad depth has come to the fore amid a congestion of fixtures. Asensio would be a terrific signing for either English side for just 40 million euros.

Arsenal have been in the transfer market to land a creative midfielder and Asensio certainly poses as a brilliant option. The Gunners’ primary target in Houssem Aouar is proving to be an expensive acquisition and may move to Juventus, which opens the door for them to explore alternatives. There is no reason why they won’t sign Asensio or at least approach.

Liverpool on the other hand can add to their squad depth by landing the Real Madrid superstar but may not be able to guarantee him a regular spot. The Reds have failed to win the domestic cups in England lately due to a lesser squad depth than their rivals, so Asensio might be the bridge to a FA Cup or League Cup triumph.

In reality though, it’s difficult to see why Real Madrid and Zidane in particular would sell Asensio. They will not be able to demand a heavy asking price for him, nor is he creating problems in the squad. The winger is happy to feature less regularly whereas he certainly does possess quality- which seems to have been temporarily slashed by an ACL injury.

Do you think Real Madrid must give Asensio time to find his feet or is it best to sell him?
