Eden Hazard has turned out to be a serious financial liability for Real Madrid rather than an asset as the club and its fans expected

Eden Hazard was signed in the summer of 2019 for 100 million euros from Chelsea and it has been suggested that the transfer fee could increase up to 150 million euros after all additional bonuses. The Belgian winger was handed the number 7 jersey along with a 400,000 pounds weekly salary.

However, Hazard’s career at Real has only been hindered by a series of injuries. The former Chelsea man has appeared only 28 times for Los Blancos in a season and a half and has just three goals in all competitions. Hazard has been rather unlucky with injuries but that does not change the fact that the 29-year-old has been a financial burden for the club.

A report from AS has outlined the financial burden that Real has incurred since the signing of Eden Hazard. The report states that every minute that Hazard has been on the field for Real has cost Los Blancos 72,000 euros, every goal scored has cost 44.8 million euros and every appearance has cost  4.8 million euros. The signing of the Belgian has not done the club much good as many believed but has rather depleted the coffers.

However, Hazard’s impact on the team must not go unnoticed as stats exactly do not back how important a player that 29-year-old is to this Madrid side. Whenever Hazard plays in the UCL, the team manages to outscore their opponent by at least three goals every 90 minutes. Unfortunately, consistent injuries have been an issue for Hazard that kept him away from a majority of the fixtures.

Hazard is currently out injured after sustaining an injury in the first half against Deportivo Alaves. So far there has been no official announcement from the club or trustable sources regarding the return of the 29-year-old winger. Hazard is set to turn 30-years-old  next month and one can hope that his injury crisis is left in the past.

However, the former Chelsea man could potentially be living on borrowed time at the Spanish capital. A report from El Chiringuito TV states that the club has considered using the Belgian in a swap deal to sign Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain. Do you think that Real should consider selling Hazard next summer for Mbappe or should the club remain patient with the Belgian?
