Real Madrid have little room for mistakes as they face Borussia Monchengladbach with Champions League qualification at stake.

Real Madrid have put themselves in a very risky situation ahead of their final UEFA Champions League Group Stage match. A win against Borussia Monchengladbach will see them through to the next round but a draw will see them depend on the score of the Inter Milan match as they take on Shakhtar Donetsk at the same time. To keep it simple, Real Madrid must win.

Goalkeeper

In goal, Thibaut Courtoiswill need to be at his absolute best. Throughout this competition, we have seen how Monchengladbach attack and they will get their chances against us. Therefore, we need to see our Belgian goalkeeper continue his run of good form to keep Real Madrid in the match if their opponents find ways to attack.

Defenders

There has been a lot of hate against him, but Lucas Vazquez is not only in form but has been performing incredibly as a right-back with Dani Carvajal still recovering from yet another injury. Alvaro Odriozola is back but it will be hard to give him this game when he still hasn’t played much in recent months. In the center, the beloved partnership is back. Raphael Varane has formed a good partnership with Nacho but when Sergio Ramos is fit, he deservedly plays and he will do so once again in his favorite competition. Not only do Los Blancos need their captain in defense, they are also in desperate need of his leadership and presence on the pitch. At left-back, Ferland Mendy will be expected to start once again since he is, simply put, our best player in that position.

Midfielders

Zinedine Zidane has played around quite a bit with our midfield so far this season but I don’t think we will be seeing any experimenting here. Carlos Casemiro will be the defensive midfielder and he will have Toni Kroos ahead of him after the German came out with a very strong performance against Sevilla. The third midfielder will be Luka Modric as the Croatian has continued to show that for some players, age is just a number. There is some worry that fatigue will get the best of our players but this is a game where they will be needed. With Federico Valverde back to training, it will also be easier to rest them and play the Uruguayan as well as Martin Odegaard in the coming weeks.

Forwards

Our forwards haven’t been as good as many of us were hoping as rotations, injury, and simply a rough time in regards to form have not been kind to them. Zidane is expected to start with Marco Asensio on the right flank as he’s made it clear that the Spaniard is his favorite choice there. With Eden Hazard injured, expect Vinicius Junior to start once again on the opposite side. Up front, Karim Benzema will have to quickly find his best form after returning from injury and we all have our fingers crossed that he finds it on Wednesday night.
