Real Madrid could potentially lose out on the signing of Kylian Mbappe as the Frenchman has reconsidered his opinion of leaving Paris Saint-Germain

Since Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid in the summer of 2018, the club has turned its attention towards the signing of Kylian Mbappe as a possible replacement for the Portuguese forward. The similar characteristic between Mbappe and Ronaldo are both the players are lethal goalscorers and that is a quality that Madrid have lacked since Ronaldo’s departure.

The rumours of the 21-year-old winger signing for Madrid have only gotten stronger over the past few months since Mbappe stated that he wants to leave PSG. Many believed that Mbappe would eventually one day end up being a galactico signing at Real since the Paris Saint-Germain forward shares a close relationship with Zinedine Zidane and would idolise Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid as a child.

The former AS Monaco forward is on contract with the 2019/20 Ligue 1 champions until the summer of 2022. This is why PSG had even considered selling the player next summer rather than losing him out on a free transfer in 2022 after his recent statement of wanting out.  However, ESPN now reports that Mbappe has reconsidered his opinion about leaving France’s capital and has considered extending his stay by renewing his contract.

This could potentially be a massive blow to Los Blancos given how eager the club was to land the French superstar. The report from ESPN continues to state that Mbappe will only agree to renew terms with PSG provided that the club continues to go higher up in the UEFA Champions League and possibly even win it after reaching the final next year.

In all honestly, continuing at PSG could possibly be a better shot for Mbappe given the fact that the club has a proper plan in place to reach Europe’s summit and even have a tactically sound manager to get them there. Meanwhile, Real Madrid faces uncertain times and are on the verge of playing in the UEFA Europa League. Mbappe certainly would not want to risk his legacy by taking such a drastic step next year by signing for a club that is going through a transitional period.
