Karim Benzema will score for Real Madrid vs. Atletico Madrid

On Dec. 12, Real Madrid will face the best. team in La Liga. No, the best team in the league is not Barcelona, whom Los Blancos already embarrassed at the Camp Nou 3-1 in a game that was magnified by Real’s struggles at the time.

Atletico Madrid is the best team in La Liga through the first couple of months of the 2020-2021 season, and it really isn’t even close. Los Rojiblancos are in first by one point over Real Sociedad and five points over Villarreal. But they have played two fewer matches than either of those teams.

Real is in fourth with six points separating them from their crosstown rivals. So Saturday’s home game in La Liga is a huge opportunity for Real Madrid to cut the lead. If they lose, they will be nine points behind Atleti with one less match in their pocket. And that’s not good for Real’s chances of winning the league title.

Earlier this year when Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid at home, Karim Benzema scored the winning goal after Vinicius Junior and Ferland Mendy set him up. I think Benz will come up huge in the Derbi again this December, finding the back of the net.

Benz’s six goals clearly have him in the lead among his teammates this season, and he would have more goals if it weren’t for that injury at Valencia. It will take a little bit for Benz to get back in form after his return, but I see the massive matches this week against Gladbach and Atleti as opportunities for Benzema to show both his quality and importance to the team.
