Karim Benzema will average a goal per game

Including this weekend’s home fixture against Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid have five remaining matches in La Liga before 2020 finishes. After Atleti, they will face Athletic Club next Tuesday in another big matchup. Then, they will play against Eibar, Granada, and Elche.

None of these are necessarily easy matches. Athletic Club, funnily enough, is ranked lowest in the table at 14th, but we all know they are a challenge for Real Madrid. Recall that Los Blancos barely beat them at San Mames 1-0 earlier this year in their summer march to the title, needing a penalty to scrape by.

Granada are in seventh and looking to lock up another Europa League spot for next season, while Elche and Eibar are holding steady in 10th and 11th.

Still, these are all games Real Madrid will be expected to win, if they are to win another league title. Out of these final five games, only Atletico Madrid are favored over Real Madrid, and even that game should be a tie if Los Blancos put their best foot forward.

It all starts with the team leaders, and Karim Benzema needs to be consistent in front of goal in order for this team to close the year strong and get the most amount of points possible. There’s no reason Los Blancos cannot get more than 10 points out of these final five matches, even if they’ve only averaged fewer than two points in the table per match in 2020-2021 thus far.

I believe Benzema will turn his goal-scoring up a notch. He has six goals so far in all competitions this season in 13 appearances, which means he’s scoring fewer than 0.5 goals per game. But I think he will average a goal per game in these final five matches to finish the year strong. He has the quality, and, let’s be honest, that’s the production Los Blancos need from him to turn this around. Who else can they rely on? Benzema is the man.
