Zinedine Zidane of Real Madrid has reportedly looked into the option of bringing back Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham Hotspur next season

Sergio Reguilon has amped up his performances by another mile at Tottenham Hotspur under Jose Mourinho and is one of the best left-backs in Europe currently. The young Spanish left-back was sold by Real Madrid last summer to the Lilywhites for 35 million euros, however, Real also included a buy-back clause in his contract if the club decides to bring the player back.

Eduardo Inda, a renowned journalist at El Chiringuito TV has stated that Real Madrid wants to execute the buy-back clause for Sergio Reguilon. If Real are to execute the buy-back clause then it is only valid for the first two seasons and Los Blancos must pay 40 million euros to bring back their talented left-back from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, apart from executing the buy-back clause and Reguilon wanting a move back to the club. There are a few other conditions that have to be met. The same report from Inda states that Reguilon will only return if Marcelo is sold next summer. The Brazilian has regressed over the past three seasons and it has been rumoured that Real are planning to show the Brazilian the door very soon.

The second condition is that if Zinedine Zidane is still the coach then he must be guaranteed a certain amount of playing time and here is why. Reguilon had made a name for himself under Santiago Solari in the 2018/19 season, however, once Solari was sacked and Zizou was reappointed then Reguilon was benched in favour of the veteran Marcelo. The following season, Sergio Reguilon was loaned out to Sevilla and Real Madrid signed Ferland Mendy who became the club’s most expensive defender alongside Eder Militao.

So if Reguilon is to return from Tottenham next summer then Real must pay 40 million euros, Reguilon must be convinced to return, Marcelo must be sold and Zizou must bestow his faith in the youngster.
