Sergio Ramos reportedly shocks Real Madrid with latest stance on future
Sergio Ramos could possibly be leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season. The captain has an offer on his table if Los Blancos do not renew terms
Sergio Ramos is certainly one of the most important players in the history of Real Madrid. His performance against Borussia Monchengladbach which was a do-or-die game for Los Blancos speaks highly about the importance of having Ramos in the team and the calm presence he brings in the backline.
However, there is absolutely no surety on whether Sergio Ramos will continue as a Real Madrid player next season as his current contract expires next year in June. From a fan’s perspective, every fan would certainly want the Spanish defender to continue for another two-three years which undoubtedly would not be a harsh task for the 34-year-old given his athletic conditioning and physicality.
Now from the club’s perspective, Los Blancos maintain a strict policy or code when renewing a player’s contract who is past the age of 30. Ramos is currently 34 and will be turning 35 next March. The club’s policy is to offer a single year extension only, however, Ramos and his brother/agent believe that a two-year contract is a safer option.
Exceptions can always be made, however, the current circumstances due to the pandemic has certainly changed the scenario. Real are planning to implement another pay-cut as the club continues to cope with the financial strife that COVID-19 has imposed and renewing Sergio Ramos’s contract does not seem to be the best move since he is the highest-paid player at the club.
The Express has broken the news from a report from ONDA Cero that Sergio Ramos has thought about leaving Real Madrid if there is no progression in the talks over a renewal. The Spaniard has a lucrative offer from the Premier League, however, the club’s name has not been mentioned.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain has also shown a great deal of interest in procuring the services of Ramos. The French side are even willing to offer the defender a three-year contract that would see him earn 18 million euros a season.
As of now, Real Madrid must act quickly if they plan on keeping Ramos next season as well. Or the player might just leave for the mystery Premier League club or join PSG on a free transfer.
