Real Madrid defeated the first-place team in La Liga 2-0 on Saturday night to keep the good times rolling.

Los Blancos had a must-win Champions League match on Wednesday night with the added pressure of losing their beloved manager with a loss or even draw. Real Madrid rose to the challenge, wiping the floor with Borussia Monchengladbach in a 2-0 victory that was probably their best single match of the 2020-2021 season.

On Saturday night at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, Real Madrid were just as good against an even more formidable opponent.

Atletico Madrid came into Matchday 13 as the best team in La Liga. Even after this match, they are still first in the table. But Real Madrid made a statement to Los Rojiblancos and the rest of the league: the reigning champions are still the team to beat in Spanish football despite everything that has happened over the past couple of months.

Real Madrid also won this game 2-0, controlling the midfield with their world-class trio of Casemiro, Toni Kroos, and Luka Modric. The defense blanketed Atleti’s resurgent attack for a third straight clean sheet since the (second) Shakhtar Donetsk debacle, and Karim Benzema and Lucas Vazquez played their roles well in the attack.

Here are five burning questions for the Royal Whites after this major derby win.
