Real Madrid: Analyzing the possible Round of 16 opponents

Real Madrid made it into the Round of 16 of the Uefa champions league. Analyzing their possible opponents for the next knockout clash.

Real Madrid made it into the last 16 with a roller coaster ride. They got defeated by Shaktar twice, they beat Inter twice, drew away at Gladbach, and finally won at home against Gladbach. The struggle was expected by the team with so many injuries and lack of concentration, but I’m glad we are through.

Possible opponents.

1) FC Porto

The Portuguese giants are one of the possible opponents for the Los Blancos. They finished second in the group stage behind Manchester City. They are currently in the third position in the Portuguese league Primeira Liga. Porto plays a possession game and is really good in the attacking style. Players like Sérgio Oliveira and Moussa Marega have come up big for the club this season. Porto has collected 13 points from 18 in the group stage, and they will be a slightly tough opponent to face.

2) S.S. Lazio

The Italian side Lazio, who were Serie A title contenders last season, have made it through. Lazio finished second behind Dortmund in the group stage with 10 points in their bank. They play aggressively and like to attack from the wings and defend well in the game. Madrid will have to face the Golden Boot winner Ciro Immobile if they draw against them. An Italian side is always tough, breaking their defense is a key job.

3) Atalanta

Another Italian side is one of the possible opponents for Real Madrid. Atalanta is playing there second UCL season. They finished second behind Liverpool in the group stage. They playing attacking game and are really good at counter-attacks. A player to watch from Atalanta will be Alejandro “Papu” Gómez. The Madrid defense has to look out for Atlanta very well if face each other.

4) RB Leipzig

Leipzig is the toughest possible opponent to be drawn against Madrid. They were in a group of the death with PSG, Manchester United, and Istanbul. They won against United on the last matchday of them and send them to Europa. Real Madrid will need to perform the way they are performing recently or else Leipzig will give them a tough time.

Personally, I want to face Leipzig as it would a great challenge for the players and Zidane. Madrid performs very well in huge clashes as their players are experienced in it. The Draw for the Round of 16 will take place on the 14th of December. Let’s see who Madrid faces in the next round.
